Welcome to First Grade!
Hello Fabulous First Grade Parents,
I can't believe we are already more than half way through October! We have a fun day planned for and I need your help!
To celebrate the many holidays happening at the end of October and beginning of November we will be doing Project centers on . I am looking for parents who are interested in helping either with organizing the day and/or helping during the day’s activities.
Here are some of the ways you can help:
-Plan a center- come up with the idea and help prepare the materials for a craft; themes can include: Halloween, Dia de Los Muertos, All Saints Day;
-Lead a center- I can plan and organize a craft/activity and you can lead the students in making the craft
-Plan & lead a center – You can plan and lead the activity of your choice
-Make a snack- make some type of festive treat for the class to enjoy at school or at home
**Please send me a picture of any activity ideas you may have so that I can approve them and be sure we do not have any duplicate activities.
**Anyone wishing to bring a treat to share please be sure there is enough for all students. We have 26 first graders and want to promote an inclusive environment for all.
Dia de los Muertos
-We will also be creating an altar in our classroom to celebrate Dia de los Muertos. So if you have a small picture or symbolic item of a loved one who has passed away that you would like to be included in our classroom altar please send it in during the week of the 26th. The altar will stay up for roughly two weeks and all pictures will be returned by . Please be sure to label any personal articles with a piece of tape to aid me in the safe return of all shared items.
Please let me know if you are interested in getting involved in any of the above mentioned activities and how you would like to participate.
Thank you so much for all that you do! Your constant support is incredible and does not go unnoticed.

Good Afternoon Parents!,
Tonight is Back to School Night! The evening begins at 6:30pm. To accommodate all families with siblings, we will be hosting four 20 minute info. sessions. This will give you the opportunity to visit each of your children's teachers at one of the sessions. This is an event for parents only, as we do not have any supervision for children.
If you can not make the event, please be sure to email me so that we can set-up another time to meet and discuss the information given.
Tomorrow is Spirit Dress for the school. Each student can wear their Tiger Pride shirt with blue jeans. You can opt out of Spirit Dress and wear uniform instead.
Thank you all for everything you do!
Please let me know if you have any questions.
I look forward to seeing you tonight!
Good Afternoon Parents,
I seem to have made a mistake on my Weekly Newsletter. Spirit Dress is actually next Friday, September 5th. This Friday is NOT Spirit dress. We will be attending mass Friday morning, so please dress students in mass uniform.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Thank you for all you do!
Hello First Grade Parents,
We are in our first full week of school and things are going swimmingly!
Below is some important information for you. All of this will be discussed in greater detail at Back to School Night, however I want to share with you some of the basics before then.
Back to School Night
Next Wednesday, September 2nd, is our annual Back to School Night. All parents are asked to attend. Check your Tuesday Tiger Tidings for the details (it was sent via email today).
Thank you again to all the families who have sent in their supplies and supply fee. If you have not had a chance to send in the materials or fee please send them in when you can. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at any time.
This is the first week that I have sent home homework. All homework will be sent home and collected from the Green Folder. I collect homework on Mondays. However, all folders need to be sent to and from school daily.
Each day I will mark each First Graders folder on the monthly behavior log. Please review the log and discuss daily with your student. Please be sure to return the behavior log daily in your students green folder.
This is a school-wide assessment being taken in place of the IOWA Testing. We begin STAR Testing tomorrow in First Grade. Please be sure all students are getting ample rest and eating a good breakfast daily so that their results will be as accurate as possible.
Mass on Friday:
As our Catholic identity is a pillar of our school's identity here is information regarding weekly class masses. Each Friday we will be attending 8am mass in the church. Please come early to school these days. Students are asked to wear mass uniform to church (white polos, red sweaters, and gray pants for boys and jumpers/skirts for girls). On Spirit Dress Friday's students are allowed to wear Spirit Dress (gray Spirit Shirt & Blue Jeans) if accompanied by their red school sweater.
As we are all readjusting to school here are a few reminders about the Uniform/dress Code. Please be sure all students are wearing plain black belts to school daily. The rule is: if there are belt loops a belt must be worn. School shoes need to be school colors as well (black, white, red and/or gray) embellishments of other colors are not allowed. Nail polish is also not allowed. Please be sure to remove all nail polish before Mondays.
This is s key element to a successful year! Please feel comfortable contacting me with ideas, questions, or concerns. Email is one of the quickest ways to recieve a response from me. However, you can also call the school and ask for the 1st grade extension (Note: all call will be sent to my voicemail if class is in session). Yiu are also welcome to send a written note in the Green Homework Folders or make an appointment with me for a longer discussion. I have a few other systems I use for parent communication that we will active and discuss at Back to School Night.
Thank you parents for ALL you do! Without you and your incredible children we would not be here. You are an integral part of this educational journey. Please know that you are appreciated always!
This year, First Grade supplies will be communal (shared among the class). Thus, a $25 Class Supply donation is due to me the first week of school. All money collected will provide the following supplies for the class: crayons, markers, pencils, paint, sharpies, scissors, glue sticks, glue, folders, dry erase markers, binders, science materials and more.
There are a few supplies you will need to provide in addition to your donation:
□ 4 reams of printer/copier paper
□ 2 containers of baby wipes
□ 2 containers of Clorox Disinfectant wipes
□ 1 set of personal headphones
□ 1 box of Kleenex
□ 1 lunch pail
□ 1 backpack (without wheels)
Thank you for your support! I am looking forward to a year full of learning and fun. If you have any questions about homework of supplies, please email me.
