Weekly News
Our first three days in Kindergarten was a great success!! We will continue to review classroom rules and procedures as well as center rules and proper indoor voice level. This week we will be dismissed at 12:00. This would be a good week to practice going through the car line because our class and TK will be the only class getting out at 12:00. If your child does not know how to put their own seat belt on, this week will also be a good week to practice that.

Kindergarten Information

Dear Kindergarten Parents:

I am looking forward to a fun and exciting school year. I hope your child is excited about
kindergarten. We will all be having such a great time as we start learning our routines and
making friends to enjoy throughout the year. I am sure you have many questions about your
child’s kindergarten year, so I hope this newsletter will answer many of your questions for
now. We will be having a Back to School Night on September 2nd where I will go over this
information in more detail. If you ever have questions or need to contact me, please feel free
to call or email me My email address is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or you can call me at school
487-5317.

What to Bring to School:
Your child will need to bring a backpack to school every day to carry home papers/projects
from school. Please check the contents of this backpack daily! Their green folder will have
their homework in it as well as any important notes that come from the office or me. This
folder needs to be sent back to school every day.
Every Tuesday a brown envelope will be sent home with your child’s work from the previous
week. Please return the envelope the next day.

Your child will need to have sneakers or athletic shoes to wear on PE days, and they will need
to wear their red PE shirt. Please write your child’s name (first and last) on jackets, sweaters,
polo shirts, lunch pail, backpacks, etc.

Daily Schedule
 First bell- 7:50 A.M.
 Kindergarten will be dismissed at 12:00
from August 19-21
 Regular dismissal- 2:45 P.M.
 Noon dismissal on first Wednesday of the month and for vacations
 Monday mornings: school-wide prayer and monthly awards
 Tuesdays: weekly Mass with our 8th grade buddies
 Tuesdays and Thursdays: P.E. (These days may be changed)

Snack Time
Please send a snack to school everyday with your child.

Lunch Time
Starting August 31st we will be going to school full time. Please let your child know if they
will be having Hot Lunch or if they brought their own lunch.

Birthdays
Birthdays in kindergarten are FUN! Some children like to celebrate their special day with a
birthday snack. If you would like to send in a treat, please try to let me know in advance.
Cupcakes, cookies, ice cream, finger jell-o, and fruit are always popular. Please do not send
in a cake, as it is very difficult to cut and serve. It is NOT mandatory to send in a treat for a
birthday. If your child has a summer birthday and you would still like to celebrate sometime
during the school year, that is great too, just let me know when!

Another way that is fun to celebrate your child’s birthday is to donate a book to our class on
their birthday. They can bring a wrapped book with a picture of them and their name on the
inside cover; they will unwrap it and share it with the class. This book can be new or used.

Helping Your Child Feel Independent
Coming to kindergarten is an important milestone in your child’s life. We will encounter
many new experiences. When you bring your child to school (after the first day), I am asking
that you say your good-byes outside in the class line. One of our goals is to help your child
become a responsible and independent learner. Each child needs to be able to hang up
his/her jacket and backpack by him/her self as well as take care of other classroom duties.
PLEASE do not worry if your child needs help as I will be there. I am sure you will agree that
hearing your child say, “I can do it all by myself!” is a good feeling! Thank you very much for
helping your child grow in this matter.

Book Orders
Periodically, I will be sending home book orders. The book orders often have great selections
for reasonable prices. If you would like to purchase books please send the order form back
to school with the payment or order online by the date I have requested.

Safety
For your child’s safety and well-being, please notify the school of any change in his/her
schedule to go home. If your child goes to a babysitter, please let me know what days this
occurs. If an older sibling walks home with your child, I also need to know this to eliminate
any confusion and to keep every child safe.

My Philosophy/Goals
As an educator, I am concerned with the total development of children and therefore design
my program around topical units that give students a chance to apply what they are learning
to all subject areas as well as to the world around them. I place great emphasis on being
children of God and creating a Christian environment where all children feel loved and
important.

Every child is special and unique and has the potential to do his/her best. My job is to work
alongside your child to help him/her recognize his/her potential and to have the “I CAN DO
IT” attitude.

Together we will work to make your child’s kindergarten year the best ever!

Prayers,
Mrs. Gillespie

Welcome to Kindergaten

Dear Kindergarten Families,

It was so nice to meet some of you at the Back to School Parent meeting. I am looking
forward to a great school year and to meeting you all on the first day of school, Wednesday
August 19th. On the first day of school please bring your child to the Kindergarten line that
starts outside of the 2nd All Purpose Room door. Then, please walk down to the
kindergarten room with us and help your child find their seat at the table with their nametag.
There will be boxes to place the baby wipes and paper. If you prefer you can bring those
items later in the week.
Just a reminder school starts each day at 7:50. The kindergarten students will be getting out
at 12:00 for the first and second week of school. They will start going full days on August
31st and will then be getting out at 2:45.
I hope you and your family had a wonderful summer and am looking forward to meeting all
of you.

Kindergarten supplies:
Each family will need to turn in $20 for classroom supplies the first week of school. I will be
sending home an envelope on the first day of school that you can put your $20 in and return
to school with your child. All of the students throughout the year will be sharing classroom
supplies. With the $20, I will provide the students with the following supplies: crayons,
markers, pencils, paint, sharpies, scissors, glue sticks, glue, folders, dry erase markers, dry
erase boards, binders, and other school supplies that they will need.

The only supplies that you will need to bring are:
-4 reams of printer/copier paper
-2 containers of baby wipes
-1 box of Kleenex
-lunch pail and backpack (without wheels) for your child.
If you would like to bring the copier paper, wipes and Kleenex before school starts you can
bring it to school on Monday or Tuesday. You can also bring them on Wednesday.

Thank you for your support. I am looking forward to a fun filled year. I have provided my
email address below if you have any questions.

Prayers,
Mrs. Gillespie
